Have you ever forgotten the where you have put a file or folder but remember the name or part of the name? Have you ever needed to search for a file but you can only recall some of the contents? Have you needed to perform a search but wanted to query for the exact opposite (invert)? Have you ever needed to use the power of Regex to either locate a pattern / substring in a file or even find a collection of files? Have you ever wanted to not only search for files & folders but also wanted to perform some terminal commands on the list of results? Well then I have good news for you... This video covers all the above and more! After a light hearted & hopefully entertaining introduction, I then inform you about an important caveat before jumping in, that BSD (Mac) Grep & Find have some very subtle differences to GNU Grep & Find. It is quite unlikely that you will come across these very small differences, however I wanted to let you know and teach you how you can spot the difference & even install the GNU versions of both commands, if you are using a Mac with brew. After that the video is split into two separate sections; the first section is covers Grep (from 07:25) & the second section is for Find (from 15:44) . Within each section you will get an explanation of the command and which situations that command will be useful & some of the common uses of the command.
