Tl;dr YouTube demonetized us for the same BS reason for the 3rd time. We likely will make no videos or very few until we can get remonetized unless we get enough support on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/user?u=2800249

The following is an older community post we made but its relevant again. Unlike our videos, here is a reused community post.

Channel update + opinions on something YouTube needs to fix (if you are a content creator yourself I highly recommend reading this as it could possibly affect you some day)

Last week the channel was demonetized for "reused content". An example of reused content would be reuploading a long clip that someone else made without providing anything over it. Something that is allowed (for reference) would be if you used a long clip in a video but provided some sort of commentary over it. Anyone who has seen our videos know our content is original.

In early 2019 we were demonetized for the same reason and were told we had to wait 30 days to appeal. We were coming off the most successful time in the channel's history but once we were demonetized, that momentum fell off a cliff and it took months to get going again. After constant tweets to TeamYouTube on Twitter we were finally able to get ahold of a human being in DMs who took a look at our content and apologized for the demonetization as it was a mistake. Seeing this same exact mistake happen 3 years later was beyond frustrating. However, YouTube does have a different process now. You are allowed an appeal that you have around 2 weeks or so to submit. In that we were told to explain our video making process and to show how we make original content. We did that and got rejected within a couple days for (to put it bluntly) BS reasons. We were told that the video didn't show enough videos on the channel. We went over the process we used for 99% of videos however.

That seemed to be it. I had already tweeted to TeamYT and they gave me a generic copy and paste response. Once we were rejected for appeal, that pretty much meant we would go a month without revenue for a mistake that YouTube had already made once in the past. Luckily, after a couple of long Twitter threads plus another tweet asking for them to take a look at it, I finally was able to get someone's attention and within around a day we got accepted back into the YouTube Partner Program so we are monetized again.

While we were lucky enough to get monetized again within a few days, and thankful someone at TeamYouTube took the time to correct the mistake, there are so many better ways YouTube should be handling situations like this. They offer no easy support communication for demonetization. We weren't even told what videos were supposedly "reused content". I had to spend a couple days just trying to get their attention. YouTube channels are a primary or important source of income for many people. We have freelancers who work on the channel who we rely on ad revenue to pay. There are channels with full time employees who could be let go if the channel got demonetized and there needs to be a way to avoid that from happening to innocent channels.

If YouTube feels like someone is doing something that warrants demonetization, my idea is to reach out to them through email with the exact reason why and the videos in question and ask for them to provide something (in our example reused content) that proves the content is original and be able to answer any questions. Obviously, clear community violations don't apply to this. We were told we had reused content and lost an appeal for a BS reason, only for YouTube to rectify their mistake days later. That could have been avoided in the first place if we were sent an email or got some type of notification saying we were at risk for demonetization if we could not prove the videos in question were original.

Google is a massive company and has the resources to implement something like this. Taking away a creators' revenue stream from a mistake and giving extremely limited communication methods is just a slap in the face to creators, especially people who have been on this platform for years.

2023 UPDATE: YouTube has demonetized us for a 3rd time in 4 years for the same exact reason and rejected our appeal for the same exact reason and has not fixed their process at all. This time we have not been able to get in touch with a helpful person and are still demonetized.

It’s almost like I’m not the same age I was when I made videos back in 2015-2016, yet some people will still respond with comments saying “kid” in them when I’m in my 20s now lol.

I just don’t understand how someone could comment “where is Xbox series X and ps5” on this video and also have an IQ above room temperature.
