I recently had a conversation on the MechanicalInk podcast about #opensource advocacy, #selfhosted services, and #homelabs . It was really an honor to be included with so many other incredible people in the open source space that have been featured on those podcasts. I hope you'll go over and give it a listen, subscribe on your favorite podcast client, and enjoy. https://podverse.fm/episode/LBVDcpJ2EC

I really like this guys channel. I know many of you are interested in starting an MSP, and beyond him not using Open Source software, the things he talks about for how to start, how to run your business, how to sell, is really great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9fxM...

After my NextCloud AIO Install video, a lot of you asked me how to change the storage location. Well, I've done it, and added it to my show notes for you to take advantage of if interested.

Backups! I know, I've posted about backups multiple times, but it's because it's so important. My network running on OpenWRT has been running great for about a month, and for whatever reason around 7 thismorning, my main router just stopped pushing out anything to the LAN. The LEDs on the LAN port stopped, and just nothing was getting through. I have backups of my configs, but just didn't have my config in a place that was easy and quick to access. So, next lesson learned... That local backup should not just be local, but easily accessible without network or internet. I was back up adn running in about an hour, but it could have been 10 minutes if I had thought about it a bit more up front.

A lot of Open Source and Self Hosting is really about taking back control of your data, and your privacy. I hope that as we continue on this journey it's becoming more clear that protecting yourself, your family, your friends from the aspects of big tech, government, and anyone else who would deem to infringe on your right to privacy, is extremely important. We have slowly become commodities. Everything we do online is being "fingerprinted". Our data, the details of our email, the information in our social media posts, your photos, your chats are all data for the taking.

I've always heard the argument, "what do i care, i don't have anything to hide...". It's not a valid argument, and it's a dangerous mindset. Context is king. You have to remember that. Truly, anything out of context can be misunderstood, improperly communicated, and can 100% be used in ways you never imagined or intended.

I was listening to the Linux Unplugged podcast, and they really hit the nail on the head with the issues of privacy vs. convenience. I know many of you are already where I am when it comes to privacy, and many of you are just starting into self hosting, but this is really and truly a massive topic for me. So expect more privacy focus in upcoming videos.

Here's a link to the podcast, I think it's worth a few minutes of your time. https://linuxunplugged.com/522
