Dhanteras is celebrated for better wealth or better health?

Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi gets its name from “Dhan” (Wealth) and “Trayodashi” (Thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha or waning moon phase).

A fact that I always knew was that we celebrate Dhanteras by purchasing gold, silver, new utensils or electronic items which symbolises “Dhan” and worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth. 

A fact that I came to know today is that we also celebrate Dhanteras for better health by worshipping Lord Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurveda. 

Another fact – Dhanteras is also observed as National Ayurveda Day.

Well Health is after all the best form of Wealth.
