Hey Techlorians! I’ll be going live on Josh’s channel, All Things Secured, on March 17th to discuss the complicated nature of ‘it depends’ when it comes to privacy & security advice (something I say a lot back here!)

We pride ourselves on nuance & avoiding black/white thinking with many topics, so I’m excited to chat with Josh about how extensive different workflows can be for different people and how hard it is to offer advice for the countless situations that exist. Click that ‘notify me’ button on YouTube and catch it live 🫡 Let’s send some of our numbers over to his stream! 📈

PSA for the latest security patches!

Exciting news I wanted to share along! Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year 🎉( https://discuss.techlore.tech/t/apple-announces-that-rcs-support-is-coming-to-iphone-next-year-9to5mac/6096 )

Some context: SMS has notoriously been a poor choice for messaging anything sensitive, and RCS adoption will dramatically raise the minimum bar for messaging. No, it won't be more secure or more private than messengers we commonly recommend, but it's hopefully a first step in ensuring more messages sent have basic security—which is a massive win!

Of course, if you want better options, we have some listed on our site: https://www.techlore.tech/resources#messengers

⚠️ PSA: Google-hosted malvertising leads to fake Keepass site that looks genuine ( https://discuss.techlore.tech/t/google-hosted-malvertising-leads-to-fake-keepass-site-that-looks-genuine/5846 )
---
"A closer look at the link, however, shows that the site is not the genuine one. In fact, ķeepass[.]info—at least when it appears in the address bar—is just an encoded way of denoting xn–eepass-vbb[.]info, which, it turns out, is pushing a malware family tracked as FakeBat. Combining the ad on Google with a website with an almost identical URL creates a near-perfect storm of deception.

“Users are first deceived via the Google ad that looks entirely legitimate and then again via a lookalike domain,” Jérôme Segura, head of threat intelligence at security provider Malwarebytes, wrote in a post on Wednesday that revealed the scam."
