What do you focus on when you do a master study?

During our recent livestream,  @LucasPeinador   discussed him aim to replicate the piece closely without making a 1:1 copy. He focused on capturing the essence of this Leyendecker piece to discover what makes him like the original so that he can explore and apply that to his own work.

Lucas used the brushes from his LP painting pack and his Traditionalizer tool to give these digital works some of the tactile appearance he enjoys.

Limiting the tools you use can lead to beautiful results.  @Eleeeza   often uses just a couple pencils and a blending stump to make beautiful graphite art. She carries an HB mechanical pencil, a 2B wood pencil in her to-go drawing bag.

What makes a digital painting feel REAL? Lucas starts with rough sketch before blocking in colors and then spends the rest of his time refining details. The last step is adding those realistic textures!
