This album is a lot, obviously because of its length but also because of its massive scope. I was a bit skeptical about this album after hearing the underwhelming and bland “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”, but that single is not representative of the rest of the album. This record is consistently surprising me at every turn. With its wild genre fusions, vocal performances that exude passion, and a genuine understanding of what makes country music great, Beyoncé really created something special here. Not every risk taken lands, but it’s just so exciting to have a figure of Beyoncé’s popularity making some seriously ambitious and fresh music in the pop sphere.

Jacob Collier - Djesse Vol. 4 | REVIEW

A clip of Charli XCX that I recently saw perfectly sums up this album. She said: “Music isn’t important, artistry is”. No technical ability or amount of music theory knowledge can make up for a lack of taste. It’s like Collier has never been told no in his life and it results in some of the most awkward and tacky genre fusions you’ll ever hear. This whole album is simultaneously one big pretentious display of complex harmonies and over the top instrumentals but also has some of the most cliché writing, generic production, and soulless songwriting you’ll hear this year. I also just physically gagged when Jacob started rapping on “Over You” like brooooo wtf was that 😭😭😭

NEXT ALBUM REACTION... YOU DECIDE... GO 

This new direction for Kevin Abstract is interesting, but I can't say that he crafted all that interesting of a song to promote this new album. Hopefully this is just more of an interlude and not representative of the entire album. Kind of a strange choice for a single. Some cool ideas here, like the ominous whispered vocals, but the song feels underbaked and could've benefited from some more progression.
