In the late 1970s, residents of Love Canal in Niagara Falls, NY discovered their neighborhood had been built on a former chemical waste dump. With their families' health at stake, the women of Love Canal took on the chemical industry and the government — and started a grassroots movement that would lead to landmark environmental legislation.
