Happy Kumar Purnima!🌹♥️🌘

Kumar Purnima is an odia festival. It is the full-moon day in the month of October-November. It is observed as the birthday of goddess Laxmi, the deity of wealth. The day is also known as Kumar Purnima when young girls in Odisha perform traditional rituals with the belief of getting ideal life partners.

This festival has lots of childhood memories of wearing new dresses in the evening and taking blessing from ‘Chanda Mama’ (Moon) followed by god and elders. Elders pay us post this ritual. Though I am away from family this year but celebrating this virtually with family. 
And also gambling has been a part of celebrations on this day for decades. This tradition of playing cards and the game of dice is still extant. It is also known as ritualistic gambling in my hometown Berhampur. Well, I don’t know how to play cards but I always enjoyed wearing new dresses and earning a lot of pocket money by seeking blessings from elders. 🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️🤭🤭🌹🌹

Pakhala divas celebrates the festival of quintessential odia dish, PAKHALA. Pakhala is an eastern food recipe made from cooked rice, which is washed or fermented slightly in water.
