Tomorrow, our gold dredging hotspot (just cleaned up almost 1 OUNCE AN HOUR) gets stolen by a rival miner. Rips my heart out just to watch it again on video... 

Happy Mother's Day to amazing ladies everywhere! Motherhood brings me more joy and challenges than anything I've ever done in life, including running a team of gold divers in the freezing waters of the Bering Sea in northwest Alaska. (Although, we haven't tried treasure hunting with the babies on board. Yet.) Have a wonderful day! 

In tomorrow's episode, not only do we have a $50,000+ gold weigh out, but we also have to rescue the Eroica from a storm, and get some of the most unbelievably clear dive footage you'll ever see in the Bering Sea. 

The editing is incredible. I honestly think it's the best episode we've ever made, and I don't say that lightly. Can't wait to show you! 

Tomorrow you're going to witness one of our team's worst moments: we get on GREAT gold only to lose it out of the box in a critical miscalculation.

It feels horrible to lose your own gold, but even worse to lose the gold of your crew who put their lives on the line to provide a living for their families.

The show must go on though, and we fight for gold during Dan's last few days on the dredge before he goes home for a mid-season break.

This is a story about one man's trip to Nome and a half ounce nugget.

One of the guests (although I'd call him a friend now) on our 2023 Gold Rush Getaway in Nome, named Doug, sent Alex a picture yesterday holding a huge nugget.

This is what he said:

"Alex - bought a goldmonster detector and did a class with Ray Mills the past few weekends. This morning I went to my claim I've been working for 12 years finding crumbs. Look what I found today...

That nug weighs 15.63 grams!

The first detector gold i ever found, and I've had detectors for 50 years, was up at the AKAU Camp trip with you guys. Inspired me to get the right machine and study the subject.

Heading back this weekend for more."

Awesome to hear a trip to the legendary goldfields of Nome could inspire and bear such valuable fruit. We've recovered many ounces over the years and never found one that big!

Am I jealous? Maybe a bit...

One great thing about our new strategy of cleaning the top mats every couple dives or so and weighing them separately is that we know exactly how good the gold was each day.

Well during our cleanup last week we identified a spot rich in quartz that we think paid 1 ozt an hour - an excellent production rate for the Eroica. It wasn't much to look at underwater, but when we weighed the top mat from Dan and David's night shift, we could see the gold was excellent.

So in tomorrow's episode we go back to our hot spot after the storm. We have to contend with strong current and murky water - somewhat rare conditions for mid-June - and get our new diver Ross on the mask and teach him to hunt for gold.

But not everything goes to plan. Par for the course on the Bering Sea... 

Tomorrow is the moment many of you have been waiting for - the first gold cleanup of our summer 2023 season!

Alex, Dan and David logged 84 hours underwater in 9 days - fighting icebergs, freezing water, breakdowns and injuries in the process.

It's time to answer the all-important question: how much gold did we pull out of the Bering Sea? And is Diver David Kropf going home with a big sack of gold in his pocket and a smile on his face?
