The PDP-8 from Digital was the first commercially successful microcomputer, selling over 50,000 units. It was much cheaper and smaller than others, being able to fit in the backseat of a car. It was 1/5 the price of a comparable IBM machine, going for $18,500 in 1965, equivalent to about $160,000 today.

Flashback: Toshiba T-3100SX, 1988
Portable computers were coming on strong in the late 80s, and the T-3100 was one of the outstanding models. In 1989 it was among the winners of the BYTE Awards for its ”amazingly clear” display and hard drive.
