Yesterday's Money Scope covered Canadian investment account types.

We reviewed rules and strategies for the TFSA, RRSP, RRIF, LIRA, LIF, FHSA, RESP, and RDSP.

It's a dense episode, but worth a listen. Here's what one listener said:

"I wish I had these podcasts when I started my journey into investing. What you’ve managed to summarize in 2 hours took me over a hundred hours of personal research and investigation. The podcast was incredibly well organized and just a joy to listen to. I will be sharing this with my friends and family."

This week's Money Scope episode takes a break from regular scheduled programming. We are 8 weeks into releasing episodes and have been getting lots of helpful feedback.

In this episode we read reviews from the audience, ponder whether we should keep the "scope" theme of the podcast, and even end up discussing when dividend investing can make sense.

Let me know what you think of the show so far! It will help us plan out the rest of the series.

Yesterday's Money Scope podcast episode covers two case studies on asset allocation:

Case 1: A plastic surgeon in 1997 with a high risk tolerance who, in addition to a busy practice, offers consulting to the medical technology industry.

Case 2: A business owner in 2019 who sold their company for a large sum recently and doesn’t want to mess up their windfall.

The cases are designed to help you integrate the information from Episode 7 into real world scenarios.

I hope you find them useful!

If you watched my most recent video on asset allocation for long-term investors, I highly recommend the long-form conversation that I had with co-author of Beyond the Status Quo: A Critical Assessment of Lifecycle Investment Advice, Scott Cederburg, on the Rational Reminder podcast.

We go through the paper in detail and answer many of the questions that I'm seeing in the comments.

I'll touch on one item here. The finding that 35% in your domestic country is optimal suggests that non-US investors optimally have a home country bias and US investors underweight US stocks. While this is optimal in the study, allocations from 5% to 50% domestic had pretty similar results.

It's also worth pointing out that the study is constrained to developed markets, so the conclusions would not apply to emerging market countries.

This week's episode of the Rational Reminder podcast featured Scott Rick, who researches the role of money in relationships.

His research suggests that money affects relationships (no surprise), spenders and savers often end up together (opposites do attract), and mismatched partners have lower marital satisfaction.

The good news is that his research suggests approaches to household money management that should reduce conflict and increase relationship satisfaction.

This was one of the most practically useful episodes we have ever done. Highly recommended!
