My OK paint job.

That’s just my opinion. Not the best, not the worst. I suppose it’s my own eye that’s being extra harsh here. Do you find you do the same for your own paint jobs? Are you a harsher critic for yourself? If so, you’re in good company. I do it all the time, but then I remember, the best mindset…

JUST PAINT !!!

There is no “right” or “wrong” when it comes to painting minis. There is only PAINT. Period. Full stop. For something that’s subjective in its purest form, it’s curious to me that WE do this funny thing to ourselves. We immediately self-assess and assign an overly harsh critique. I’ll call a spade a spade… we’re trying to Eminem ourselves.

“What’s does THAT mean Dave?” Well it’s simple: we make fun of ourselves first before anyone else can. We mitigate the pain of failure and rejection by overcompensating in assigning an overly critical opinion on our own paint jobs. True? I is for me anyway.

“But Dave, if I say my own paint job is really good then that makes me super arrogant and cocky and that is socially unacceptable.” That’s certainly one way of looking at it. Another could be: Sometimes you can be the BEST champion for yourself. One can easily say about someone else’s paint job “dude, that looks awesome! I can tell your painting technique has really improved and your colour choices blend together quite beautifully.” If it was the exact same paint job, the latter would be equally true.

Anyway, if I’m totally crazy then ignore me haha. However, if ANYTHING I’ve said here rings true, leave your thoughts and let me know. “Crazy” loves company.

Fitness update: JUST MOVE. I rarely go to the “gym.” I move throughout the day no matter where I am. My “gym” is where I physically am and is therefore located in my mind.

“Dave you’re almost 40. What are you doing taking gym selfies? Lol” why aren’t YOU? Don’t think… JUST MOVE !!!

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a trained fitness expert/ professional. I just move man. I’ve got a habit of it. I don’t tell anyone how to move. I JUST MOVE and I do what I feel is best for ME. I may encourage people TO move but I exercise social responsibility by NOT telling them HOW to move. Listen to YOUR body and move how YOU feel is comfortable. That would be my advice (if I were to give it), but I’m not, so my question to you is: how are you moving? What have you been doing to move?

I’ll start by sharing what I’m doing:

1. I curl dumbbells while on phone calls. I enjoy using 15 lbs (6.8 kg) dumbbells for this. That way I can do many types of curls, slightly adjusting the angles and tempo with lower risk of injury. Gone are the days I attempt weight that’s too heavy for me. Ego lifting has caused me too many injuries to justify heavier wights. I listen to my body even while I’m lifting weights. I DON’T count the reps as I’m doing this. I go by feel.

2. I’m painting more minis and I sit while doing this. If I’m sitting longer than 10 - 15 min, a thought typically pops in my head to move and I immediately get up and move. Calf raises on the spot is a fun one. I like to alter the tempo of these while doing them. After about a minute or so of these I sit back down and go back to painting. I find this helps me paint longer without getting stiff and sore afterwards. It mostly helps my neck since it stays relatively loose.

Let me hear YOUR ways of moving and where you like to “gym.”

Armored Bash is a fun beginner-friendly tabletop hobby experience that offers loads of 3D printable parts that can be used to convert vehicles in games such as Warhammer 40k, Gaslands, and Necromunda. The bits were designed to convert a toy vehicle into an armored hull of maximum carnage!

The packs of downloadable STLs include armor plating, weapons, exhausts, pipes, lights, battering rams, crushing claws, doors, hatches, weapon mounts, and more!

It’s now available to order on FronTiers here:
 https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/armored-bash-2541

It all started when I (Dave) wanted to play a tabletop game with my kids but found the typical options were ridden with rules too complex and overwhelming for first-time gamers. So I went to a used toy shop and grabbed some spare bits from my “pile O shame” (extra Warhammer 40k terrain and vehicles parts, plus bits from other tabletop industrial terrain pieces). We glued all the parts onto the used toy trucks and had a blast doing it!

“Bashing” (or gluing) the spare parts onto our trucks was so much fun it became a social magnet on our dining room table. When family would visit we’d sit and hobby with them as we’d glue all sorts of parts onto these toys. However, we quickly discovered an obvious problem: we ran out of suitable bits and pieces to add to our vehicles.

So I asked Kyle from Gear Gut’s Mek Shop if he could design custom parts for our humble hobby experience. He accepted the challenge of designing EVERY part you see in Armored Bash, and we’ve now made it available for public use. Since all that time and effort was put into the designs, it made sense to make something out of it officially.

Orc.butt did some fantastic artwork and logo design! Huge shoutout to him as well.

Just BASH !!! That’s it! Don’t think, JUST MOVE !!! That’s what Armored Bash is all about.

Just imagine a pile o bits you can use to kitbash orc vehicles or onto used toys you’ve got lying around the house. Thats what all this is! It started with an idea I developed with my kids.

Challenge: Remove barriers for entry into the hobby. Answer: persuade Gear Gut’s Mek Shop to create bits that are suitable for gluing onto any vehicle. Then ask @orcbuttpainting to illustrate some sweet drawings to depict the world of Armored Bash.
Conclusion: click LINK to download the STLS and 3D print all the bits - weapons, armor plates, exhaust stacks, lights, spikes, and more!

here: https://www.myminifactory.com/frontier/armored-bash-2541

It’s available on Frontiers on @Myminifactory

SWIPE ===>>>> to see what what Armored Bash bits Orc.butt used to convert his minis! #warhammer40k #orks are great minis to use with these extra bits! I particularly like the use of the flamers and fuel tanks.

Thank you everyone who’s taken this simple idea we’ve had and run with it beside us! Ryan (my son) named Armored Bash and this project is inspired by HIS desire to hobby and play games. I thought the comic book/cartoon style of the art perfectly suited the feel of the Armored Bash experience. Josh Harris (@orc.butt) nailed the aesthetic!

Friday evening WIP: large scale Lord Tyrach. Show me your project too! Post pics in comments. ESPECIALLY if you’ve got your own Tyrach.

First drybrushed coat applied using Citadel Stormvermin Fur. Next I’ll be drybrushing layers of Celestra Grey and Corax White.

For those interested, Lord Tyrach (and many more Ravaged Star Veil-Touched minis) are available to preorder here: https://gamefound.com/projects/miniwargaming/ravaged-star-tabletop-miniature-wargame?refcode=Wd07ljPtN0GDzU6muT5nEw

Now back to the brushing of the drys. It’s sooooo satisfying seeing the details pop. “High-detail” minis they said. This is fact. Veil-Touched minis have loads of details. “Scary to paint” they said. To that I say… ALL HAIL LADY FEAR!!!
