THE ONE WHO DIED FOR ME Copyright © John thomas Oaks, Caliora Music Publishing, ASCAP I wandered far to find a gentle harbor A haven where all suffering would cease But at each port, my anchor found no purchase No friendly face—no restful place of peace The rugged waves may threaten me to wreckage The tossing tide deliver me to doom But though my path continues through a tempest I faintly see a glimmer in the gloom No more adrift in vast and void expanses I've set my course to cross a deeper sea And though I stagger still, I've set my sail for My only hope—the One who died for me There was a demon with my very likeness And ev'ry day I looked it in the eye There was a hollow hunger deep inside me That I could never fill or satisfy But now I'm told I live in deep delusion I've seen the heads that shake—the eyes that roll But ev'ry day I live in that delusion Just brings a calmer comfort to my soul Oh, I could gain the world and all its glory But gold and goods could never make me free I'm living only by His liberation My breath, my life—the One who died for me Now that the world forever leaves me yearning His precious blood becomes my only plea So I am boasting only in his anguish I'm lost without the one who died for me
