A broken screen, a weak battery - and already the smartphone has to be thrown away? That is now becoming a thing of the past. The European right to repair means repairing instead of throwing away. This can be a milestone on the way to a circular economy. The European Commission will present its legislative proposal on Wednesday, 22 March. In an online briefing on the day of the presentation, I will discuss with Didier Reynders, the Commissioner responsible for Justice and Consumer Protection, exactly what the right to repair means for consumers and how we can use it to protect the climate and resources.
