A classroom lecture. Understanding the complex signal transmission on wired and wireless systems. Understand interference as it impacts both wired and wireless communication. Differential signaling allows effective transmission across CAT 5-6 cabling (twisted pair). The problem of telephone lines and how engineers discovered twisting wires removed unwanted interference. Why CAT 5 has fewer twists per inch than CAT 6 or CAT7. Understand the development of CAT 6-7 cable construction to provide effective transmission. We will look at the signal of a cell phone tower, 1 mV to 20 uV. Twisted pair in ethernet uses 2.5V. Understand dBm and what that means to the technician.
