This is a sort of beginners guide to improve and get the best audio quality out of your microphone. But it will require some experimentation from your side as well. If you're a beginner YouTube Creator or Vlogger it's a good idea to experiment with not only different equipment but the positioning of the mic and the room where you record in order to get the cleanest and most optimal audio recording. I'm not an audio expert. I actually hate working with audio but it's so important for high quality video so I try my best.
In this video I do some not so scientific tests of the microphones I have at different distances and environment in order to find the best recording setup for me.
I'm also assuming you already know how to sync a separate audio and video stream together in a video editor. Otherwise this might be useless to you but I recommend you learn because it's pretty easy.
In this video I used the following microphones that are available from Amazon:
Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone - http://amzn.to/1T2wLLm
KA 600 XLR to 3.5mm adapter - http://amzn.to/1rqFB99
(Also note that using the MKE600 with XLR phantom power, instead of battery power as used in the video, will improve the frequency range and sound better)
Highly Recommended Zoom H1 Recorder/Microphone - http://amzn.to/1QSvIpD
Sony RX100 Mk3 - http://amzn.to/1QSvLBD
Not mentioned in this video but also very popular is the Rode VideoMic Pro Shotgun Microphone - http://amzn.to/1rqFUAE
(I choose the MKE 600 over the Rode VideoMic Pro because it gives me room to grow as I upgrade to using an XLR interface/recorder but not necessary)
And of course the industry standard microphone (and expensive) Sennheiser MKH-416 http://amzn.to/1QSvRJA
