In this video I go through the most plausible solutions to the black hole information loss problem that physicists have so far come up with. First, there is the possibility that black hole evaporation stops and a remainder keeps the information. This is known as a "black hole remnant". Second, the information may come out very late, when quantum gravity becomes important. Since the leakage of information in the late phase might take very long, this is known as a "quasi-stable remnant." Third, the information may be in the radiation all along, just that Hawking's calculation, for some reason, doesn't capture it correctly. I briefly explain why this is required if you believe in the microscopic interpretation of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Fourth, you can try to accept that information is just destroyed, as Hawking originally argued. Fifth, you can try to argue that black holes are never formed in the first place.
