Pinocchio and the Positronic Brain: Transhumanism as a Path to Immortality
As the field of artificial intelligence advances rapidly, we are on the brink of having to address philosophical and ethical issues that have been posed for years in popular science writing as well as in science fiction. The question of whether or not we should create AI - and if so, how intelligent we should allow them to become - is a complex one on both philosophical and ethical levels. 5There must be substantial discussion and parameters established before the first truly artificial intelligence is developed so that we are sufficiently prepared for the possible consequences. This talk will examine the philosophy of transhumanism as it relates to the development of artificial intelligence and its implications for future human flourishing.
