GRANDPA GRIMES My Grandfather, a member of the greatest generation, was my hero and I am blessed to be his namesake. He passed away several years ago, but while he was alive (91 Years Old) I asked him to tell me a story. He went on to share a little bit about his childhood growing up in Paris, Texas during the Great Depression. He would later go on to serve in World War II in North Africa, Italy, and finally France where he came down with Malaria. He was sent back to the U.S. to recover. It was while there, on Long Island, that he met the love of his life, my Grandma, Lila. The story goes that because of his malaria he was unable to have children so they adopted my father and aunt. My dad hit the lottery being adopted by my grandparents. Recently I started searching for my father’s biological family. That’s a story for another time.
