The 3D/2N Lares Trail Trek in Peru is a high altitude, less-touristy alternative to the famous Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu. This is a no-fluff first-person hiking video meant to give an idea of the sights and style of hiking of this incredible trek. Note that I shot this in July 2014, so I won’t be including much info as it may be out of date. There are several versions of this trek so your experience will vary, but this will give you a sense of what to expect.
Like the Lord of the Rings with llamas, the scenery was breathtaking at every step, with no other tourists in sight. Along its 33km length, we walked through Inca ruins, villages where children scrambled up and down steep slopes to say "buenos días" or sell a few trinkets, while managing our way past herds of llamas and alpacas. We camped underneath the stars at 4200M and slept to the sound of distant waterfalls. Felt my heart was going to burst from the thin air as we struggled up two 4600M passes --- and from the views we earned at the top.
To cap it all off, after the end of the trek, we took a scenic two-hour train ride to Aguas Calientes to see Machu Picchu and it did not disappoint.
