New York City can be a tough place. Really any city can be tough. You have to know how to negotiate a city like New York. Go on your way. Do not be easily stopped. To listen the people some of the time and to ignore them other times. A New York attitude is something special. Having grown up in New York City, in Astoria Queens, I learned the New York Way and it has held me in good stead my entire life since. New York style isn't being impolite or nasty. Quite the opposite. It's being friendly and open if people are the same with you. But there are occasions where bureaucracy gets in the way. When someone tries to stop you from doing something that is perfectly legal and within your rights. My family and I were walking the streets of New York when my boys were young and I was teaching them how to ride the subway, take a bus, get help from a pedestrian, or a cop, order food, follow and don't follow street signs, when to stop when it says to and when to walk when it says stop. Those of you who have grown up in cities like New York know exactly what I mean. I do hope that this short video helps you as a parent or as a teenager trying to figure out how to get along in the world. Some of my subscribers have looked at this video and felt that it was to blunt, too aggressive. Maybe so, but more often than not, that kind of bluntness has helped me wherever I have been in the world.
