Hello! I’m John Russell.
In recent lessons, we paid special attention to a common question and a common statement.
The question was “How old are you?”
The statement was “I’m ________ years old.”
If you haven’t seen those videos, be sure to watch them when you get a chance.
Today, we will practice using what we have learned. You will get a chance to listen and speak to a native speaker – me.
So, let’s imagine we are talking in a café. Let’s assume we are friends.
That’s an interesting point. You seem to remember a lot about the 1990s. How old are you, by the way?
Did you notice how I snuck in the question about your age? You have to listen carefully for the question.
You could have answered like this:
I’m twenty years old.
Or
I’m forty years old.
Once again, the age is not important. What is important is that you hear the question “How old are you?” and then respond with “I’m _________ years old.”
A quick word about culture and politeness. You might want to be careful about asking others’ ages – especially if you do not know the person or if you are not the person’s friend.
For example, you might not want to ask your boss or your teacher about their age.
That’s all for today!
Keep up the good work!
