How to fit a Door Hinge using traditional tools and method (Mallet and Chisel) This is how I install my door hinges when I do them by hand. It's quite simple and with a sharp chisel very quick and easy. The key to accurate cuts and clean joinery lie's in accurate marking out and sharp controlled tooling. It's the same process for window hinges, cupboard hinges or any type of butt hinge that needs housing out. Obviously if your doing a lot of doors, or on a building site etc your not going to beat a Router for repeatable accuracy and speed, but for a single door I reckon I could give a router a run for its money.
