My family has had several tortoises. They have been house pets in part because my wife is highly allergic to fur and feathers. When we got our first tortoise whose name was Bubba, I thought of tortoises as cold-blooded animals and therefore emotionally cold and not particularly smart. More like what I imagine dinosaurs to be like. But that was not the case at all. Our tortoise follows us around like a dog and is very smart when it comes to figuring out how to get around things so that he can stay near us. He loves the smell of our feet for some reason and will take that smell over lettuce or any other greens we give him including his favorite, dandelion greens.
