OVERVIEW
The Philippines’ renewable energy (RE) transition is at a critical juncture, showing promise with forward-looking policy, a mature developer sector and dynamic civil society, among other promising characteristics.
There is an opportunity for the RE sector to pioneer a shift towards business models that go beyond doing less harm—towards ones that enable social justice, economic resilience, and regenerate ecosystems.
The official launch of the Responsible Energy Initiative (REI) Philippines took place on the inaugural International Day of Clean Energy, January 26 2024, the date of https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChwaz9BKMZZ3nPrw9gahErw's founding.
REI Philippines is an Asia-based initiative that supports RE sector actors in developing and implementing policies and practices that enable ecologically safe and socially just production and deployment of utility-scale RE technologies.
The event brought together leading actors (developers, manufacturers, investors, government agencies, civil society organizations, academia and development partners) from across the Philippines’ RE value chain, to join in a collaborative platform to develop an ambitious, visionary and impact-oriented approach towards an ecologically safe, socially just and future fit RE system.
Insights from the Call to Action report were also shared, which provided an overview of current and future risks in the growth of utility-scale RE in the Philippines.

About the Responsible Energy Initiative
The Responsible Energy Initiative is a multi-country program aimed at ensuring the ecologically safe and socially just production and deployment of renewable energy. It is designed to support actors in the renewable energy system to innovate and adopt business models, financing frameworks and value chain relationships that create the conditions towards this goal. REI Philippines is the second country in REI, with the first REI launched in India in 2021.
