RPMs (Real-time Performance Monitoring) are similar to SLAs in IOS. They monitor the uptime and quality of connections to other services. This includes packet-loss, response time, RTT, and jitter. RPMs contain probes, which use HTTP, ICMP, TCP and UDP. Probes are groups into ‘tests’. Probes have ‘owners’. This is essentially a probe name. Newer versions of Junos support ‘route tracking’ to link the results of an RPM to a static route.
