I don't have a big enough sample, but I've maybe done this in about 5 differing systems, mixing kits. e.g. 4 8GB sticks from 2 16GB kits and have never noticed any major issues, apart from the odd dodgy stick. Not sure about minor as it was a case of it worked, so fine.
