Nasa has been given the funding to build a moon base by 2024, this will act as a platform to colonise Mars and the outer solar system. Building moon bases will require innovative ideas from Structural engineers to overcome the unique challenges of building structures on the moon. The moon's unique characters will require solutions that will likely even provide benefits here on earth and not just for any moon base. Moon bases are key for humanity to become an interplanetary species it is will make an intermediate location before launching further out into the NASA's Plan For A Permanent Moon Base with the Artemis program. in this mission, NASA will land the first woman and next man on the Moon by 2024. this will require innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface, and the construction of any moon bases will require new construction methods to be developed which will require structural engineer are required to solve many of these. Nasa's Moon base will be set up to provide a lunar colony that will provide a sustainable exploration before the end of the decade. So any Moon Bases will either require to be lightweight or utilise elements at are already on the moon. SpaceX and Blue Origin are looking to reduce the cost of launching material to the moon, however, even if the most ambitious goals for Elon Musk were achieved it would still be prohibitive to transport all the material here from earth to the moon.
