The PSX was a japanese only console that contained a Playstation 2, a digital video recorder, and other multimedia features.
For a variety of reasons (including encrypted hard drives that are not replaceable) the console was not considered a success, but it does offer a unique glimpse into the prehistory of things like the PSP and PS3, as the PSX is the first console to use a version of the XMB interface that would be featured in future devices.
