The universe is accelerating as it expands, powered by a mysterious phenomenon called "Dark Energy" because nobody (yet) understands exactly what is causing this acceleration.
In order to understand dark energy, a dedicated Dark Energy Survey is underway using the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) mounted on the 4-meter Victor Blanco telescope at the Cerro-Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile.
The Dark Energy Survey is an international collaboration of astronomers trying to understand what dark energy might be.
Our guest is Ross Cawthon, a research associate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison who is involved with the Dark Energy Survey.
