Sumeet Mhaskar, a labour sociologist and professor at OP Jindal Global University, has been studying anti-caste movements, non-Brahmin and OBC politics, and how these communities respond to the question of Hindutva and their economic hardship.
In the latest episode of What’s Your Ism, he spoke to Sudipto Mondal about Ambedkarism, political Hindutva, prejudices and political parties.
“There is political Hindutva of which BJP is the torchbearer, but there is also everyday Hindutva. There are different kinds of prejudices that are circulated, which happen to be a part of any political party…Therefore, we need to rethink Hindutva at both levels, political Hindutva as well as everyday socio-cultural Hindutva,” he says, adding that “Hindutva tendencies are across all upper-caste parties”.
