In the hours after the arrest of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor policy scam today, hundreds of AAP and opposition parties’ members protested outside his residence amid heavy police barricading.
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Kejriwal from his residence following the Delhi High Court’s denial to grant him any interim protection in the case. The AAP leader has now moved the Supreme Court against his arrest.
Speaking to the media outside the CM’s residence, AAP leader Atishi Singh alleged that the arrest – weeks ahead of the general elections – is a “political conspiracy”. “We are fighting for the constitution. This arrest shows that Modi is scared of Kejriwal. He wants to end democracy, put each opposition leader in jail one by one.”
The leader also said that the opposition, specially the Congress, has extended its support to Kejriwal, and the INDIA alliance will together “fight for democracy”.
