Not many people have experienced a bike ride on these forgotten roads. Cuyahoga Valley National Park staff have reviewed this route and confirmed that it's legal to ride. In fact, they encourage experienced cyclists to enjoy it as long as it's done responsibly. This 18-mile loop includes closed sections of Stanford Road and Akron-Peninsula Road and also uses the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Summit Bike & Hike Trail. There are 3 significant downhill sections and 726 feet of elevation change. This ride should not be done alone. Wide tires, at least 1.5 inches, are necessary for gravel sections. I don't recommend this route for beginners. The closed road sections and the Old Carriage Trail are shared with pedestrians, which requires extra caution.
