I became "Anne of All Trades" out of necessity. A former city dweller turned homesteader, with no background in farming or making things, I wanted to learn to raise my own food, fix things when they break, and build the things I need. 8 years ago I got my first pet, planted my first seed and picked up my first tool. My husband Adam and I bought a farm and I made it my life’s mission to learn to do or locally source as many aspects of our life as possible. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn’t know how to do… well, anything really. What I quickly found though, is that, if you’re willing to try, knowing you might fail, almost anything is possible, especially if you're willing to ask for help. I've since centered my life around the pursuit for knowledge, the building of community, and preservation of antiquated craft and tradition- with a bit of a twist: as a young woman I don't look like the craftsmen or farmers of old, and I've stepped WAY outside my comfort zone, trying new things things and asking for help. I believe that folks seeing real people, who look like them, doing the things they've always wanted to try, is hugely powerful when it comes to having a sense of personal empowerment to try things on their own. Calling myself Anne of All Trades is not meant to glorify me for being especially skilled at anything I do.
