UK Comes To A Standstill Following Unprecedented Strikes | UK Protest Live | UK News | News18 LIVE
One hundred thousand civil servants have taken strike action on Wednesday (February 1) alongside thousands more teachers and rail worker in the biggest day of industrial action in Britain in decades.
It is the largest coordinated strike action in Britain in a generation, causing widespread disruption.
Speaking on the strike action, Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services union, said the sheer numbers of people striking showed the need for urgent action to tackle the cost of living crisis.
''You do not deserve to be poorer at the end of the year than you were at the start even though you’re working harder than ever before,'' he said.
With inflation running at more than 10% - the highest level in four decades - Britain has seen a wave of strikes in recent months across different sectors, including health and transport workers, Amazon warehouse employees and Royal Mail postal staff.
