In early August 2021, almost 30 years since his work on Windows, I approached Daniel Oran - the creator of the Start menu and taskbar - to ask if he would be interested in sharing his story, in the form of an interview. He was more than willing, and in the weeks that followed, members of the Windows community both on YouTube, and elsewhere online, sent in their suggestions for questions to be put to Daniel.
This video tells the story of Daniel’s creations through his responses, narrated by a group of nine well-known members of the Windows community on YouTube. With their help, for the first time, we can hear in more detail than ever before, the story behind the development of arguably the most recognisable and influential user interface in the history of operating systems.
