Yodit Tewolde sits down with retired NFL player Ken Jenkins about the NFL agreeing to end “race-norming,” the practice of assuming Black players start out with lower cognitive functions.
The practice was used to determine eligibility of players in a $1 billion settlement on brain injuries.
The NFL said that the practice was “used to stop bias in testing, not perpetrate it.”
“It’s being applied inappropriately and heavily weighted against Black players,” Jenkins says. “It makes it a ridiculous way trying to evaluate someone’s cognitive decline.”
All this and more on “Making the Case.”
