Unfortunately, they both started to experience issues with the finish flaking off as is a common occurrence with early Murphy Lab guitars. I noticed it on #74 first so I reached out to Gibson about it and they asked me to send it in. About 3 months go by, I request an update and inform them that my #34 was also having the same issue, but in a different area. The Gibson employee told me they would forward the information to the CS and I hadn't heard back about it since. It was at this time, I was unsure of what the fate was for #74, but then I get a shipping notification that it was coming back to me. Upon opening it, I could tell it it was the same guitar but they did a warranty refinish and a new aging job. However, the wrong serial number was put on it! It seems whoever stamped the serial number for this guitar referenced the emails that mentioned #34, not realizing I had TWO firebird inquiries in for the same model. It is either that, or they thought they were working on #34. So this is the story of how #74 was lost and how I got duplicate serial number #34s. I totally get how this happened - it is honestly a rather hilarious misunderstanding in the grand scheme of things. I'm still waiting to hear back from the Custom Shop to see how we could straighten this out.
