In the United States, a child is reported missing every 40 seconds. That's an estimated 460,000 per year. When a child is missing, time is of the essence, and being able to get quality identifying information into the hands of authorities, the press, and to volunteers in a timely matter is of key importance.
Amber Heroes provides such a service. We will provide parents with a QR code embedded picture of their child that will link to key information that anyone with a smart phone can scan and use to help find the lost or missing child. This information is initially only provided to the parents/guardians, so nobody has access to this information unless the parents/guardians choose to share the QR code.
Every year, or as often as needed, the picture can be updated to reflect an accurate image of the child as they age.
According to NISMART (National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrownaway Children) there are 5 main categories defining missing children:
Benign reasons such as misunderstandings
Family Abduction
Lost, stranded, or injured
Ran away or thrown away
Stranger Abductions
The key to rapidly finding a lost child is the ability to get accurate and useful information into the hands of those who can help locate the child and bring them safely home. Our service will allow parents/guardians to quickly disseminate that information to law enforcement, the media, and anyone who might be able to help identify and locate the child during a time when speed and efficiency is of the essence.
