Harvey Pratt, the designer of the National Native American Veterans Memorial, now under construction on the grounds of the museum in Washington, D.C., talks with Mandy Van Heuvelen (Mnicoujou Lakota and a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), manager of the museum's Cultural Interpreter staff. Harvey, a Vietnam veteran and member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, explains the symbolism of the memorial's design and how he was inspired to create it.
Dedication of the memorial is planned to take place on Veterans Day, November 11, 2020. This conversation was presented to members of the museum via teleconference on May 19, 2020, and was recorded with permission.
