Arch Linux: Install Software From Source
In this video I'm showing the simple way of installing a program from source in case you can't find it in the repositories or the AUR.
We'll go through installing DWM window manager from source with the GNU build utilities ( gcc compiler & libraries ) and we'll also install a PDF reader program from an installer downloaded from the developer's website.
This process is not only specific to Arch Linux, but it can also be performed on any other Linux distribution as well.
NOTE: In case if you installed the DWM and you're a beginner with window managers, make sure you have the line "exec dwm" inside ~/.xinitrc in your /home directory.
Once you are in DWM, run xrandr from the terminal to find our your connected display.
Resolutions can be changed with xrandr --output "your-output-display" --mode "your-resolution"
Example: xrandr --output VGA-1 mode 1920x1080 and you can also put this inside your ~/.xinitrc file on the first line and have the exec dwm on the last line.
