Yodit Tewolde talks to Elizabeth Bruenig, staff writer for The Atlantic, about race-norming used in death penalty cases.
Race- norming is a practice that assumes Black people have lower cognitive functions.
Bruenig and Tewolde discuss the case of Corey Johnson, an intellectually disabled man in prison who was put to death in January 2021 under the Trump administration.
Bruenig says that since the Supreme Court ruled that the government executions of people with intellectual disabilities violate the constitution, Johnson should not have been put to death.
All this and more on “Making the Case.”
