LXD allows you to export and import virtual machine archive files, and move them around to your heart's content. You can take a backup of an LXD VM and restore it to a different LXD host, or you can move a VM between different Storage Pools on the same LXD host. You could also take periodic VM backups on a cron schedule, and store them in "off-site" cloud object storage services, such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, Minio, or others.
You can use the --storage parameter for the "lxc import" command to specify which LXD Storage Pool you want to import a VM backup into.
If your LXD virtual machines have the same IP address, after importing, check out this discussion thread for possible solutions: https://discuss.linuxcontainers.org/t/two-containers-with-same-ip-address-if-restored-from-same-backup/10357/2
