The "Hate Crime" story is a 2 issue arc (Green Lantern 154-155) where Kyle Rainer's art student is brutally beaten and hospitalized because of his sexuality. We see how Kyle Rayner responds to this, and the sheer measures he will go to in order to avenge his friend.
