Growing up, Zak Katzer played video games and played in a band. Sport was simply not a part of his life. Derek had always been an athlete and played college football. Zak had a run in with a train when he was 15 years old and lost most of his right foot. Derek Loccident had a run in with a train in 2018 and lost his leg below the knee. After his accident, Zak gained weight and started playing wheelchair basketball to lose a few pounds. He learned to love the sport and is now playing at a high level. After his accident, Derek came back to play college football as an amputee, and then found track and field. After taking home the silver medal from the 2023 World Championships in Paris in the long jump Derek is now also high jumping, throwing the javelin, and running the 100. Having these two join me for a great conversation was a total treat!!
