With anime being really popular among the Gen-Z and Gen-Y, this video gives a brief on how anime has evolved over time. Anime is a Japanese animation which started out in 1956, has flourished as both a commercial enterprise and an art form since its inception in 1917. Anime evolved in stages, beginning with cutout animation and silent short films, increasing through government-sanctioned propaganda, and finally transitioning to longer, more creative works influenced by Disney but with its own distinct appearance.
Observing the growth of anime during its almost century-long existence is a fascinating look at how culture, politics, art, and globalization ebb and flow. Fortunately, anime continues to evolve and grow — even Netflix is producing original anime — ensuring that new generations will continue to benefit from the debate and enjoyment that Japanese animation has sparked.
