As a new digital project manager, seeking advice from other project managers is a great way to begin your new career. Times will come when you will have to overcome challenges and difficulties as a DPM.
For example, you may have to complete a tough project. One way to overcome a difficult project is to remember that you can do anything for three months. Reminding yourself that the project will eventually end, and that you can persevere until it’s finished, can help motivate you.
It might also be helpful for you as a new DPM to remember to “add a little sugar to every note you send.” Sometimes you have to deliver some bad news. By ending the note on a positive note, you can help people feel better.
Finding a mentor to help you will also be a big advantage. Keep searching until you find the right environment for you to thrive in.
Lastly, don’t make assumptions. Don’t assume that the team you’re working with, your client, or others on the project understand everything. Make sure that you explain things to everyone, and find out if there is anything unclear about what is expected of them.
Having the right advice beforehand when starting out as a new DPM can make all the difference in your success and enjoyment regarding the job.
