How can I make my animations more interesting? How do I create an animation idea? These are questions I get and see a lot, and in this video, I share my techniques for how to get past a dull sentence that simply doesn't inspire any good ideas for animations.
I share a couple of methods for where you can find inspiration for your animations. From simple sketching on paper to surrendering to the tool you useβletting what's there lead the way instead of your own original idea.
Ideation is a skill that can be learned. I've done it thousands of times over the years, and now I felt like sharing some of the tricks I use to get ideas on command.
My main method is to choose an overall scene category. This sentence, I'm stuck at.. should it be a textual, conceptual, or environmental scene? That usually helps in limiting the choices I have, and that sparks a concrete animation idea.
I also often use the templates and libraries in my animation maker, Vyond, lead the way. Instead of thinking of my animation tool as a limitation, I use what's there to decide what I want my scene to look like.
Some animation software has better scene templates than others, but if you use any of the more popular animation makers like Vyond, Toonly, Animaker, and VideoScribe, you'll find a lot of inspiration for new animation ideas.
An overall technique to get better at generating ideas for your videos is to watch how other animators visualize their voice-overs. I love the Danish animation agency Ferdio for their ability to visualize in interesting and original ways.
I then steal some of their ideas and incorporate them into my own explainers, course lessons, and YouTube videos. And I hope you'll lend a little from me as well, so you can accelerate your process and your ability to get ideas for animations.
