Apart from the main workstation, which is packed with water cooling, powerful CPUs, PSUs and a lot of fans, I have render units that serve as slaves for the main machine. When building those my main criteria was the price. I needed them to be cheap, but still functional enough to host up to 4 GPUs, have enough RAM and be a well-performing machine. Last week I decided to turn one of those machines into my little home workstation and share the build with you. The good thing is that the base will cost you less than a grand and will be a good machine already, but you will be able to enhance your system as you go, expanding its capabilities.
